On November 20, 2024, in Polk County, Wisconsin, National Grid Renewables commenced construction on the 100 MW Apple River Solar Project. The project is projected to create significant local economic benefits, including an estimated $36 million in direct economic impact over its first 20 years of operation, with $10 million earmarked for tax revenue to Polk County and its townships.
Construction will be managed by The Boldt Company, sustaining approximately 150 jobs. The facility will utilize First Solar Series 6 Plus bifacial modules.
Once operational in late 2025, Apple River is expected to supply power to Xcel Energy, serving around 26,000 homes annually. The project aims to offset carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 129,900 tons per year, equivalent to removing about 30,900 cars from the road.
Additionally, Apple River will contribute around $500,000 to local charities over the first two decades through a dedicated charitable fund.
