Jack Dorsey Launches Bitchat: Decentralized Messaging App

Edited by: Veronika Radoslavskaya

Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Block and co-founder of Twitter, has introduced the beta version of Bitchat, a decentralized messaging application. This innovative platform offers secure and encrypted communication without an internet connection.

Bitchat utilizes Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) networks to establish direct communication between devices, eliminating the need for central servers. Messages are temporarily encrypted and relayed between devices, using nodes on the network to reach the next user.

Dorsey stated that the goal of Bitchat is not just to create a messaging app. In the long run, they aim to establish a usable decentralized communication protocol worldwide. He believes that people need networks resistant to censorship and surveillance.

Bitchat's launch coincides with a growing interest in privacy-focused technologies. While apps like Signal and Telegram offer secure communication options, they still rely on specific servers. Bitchat, however, eliminates this dependency with a completely serverless architecture.

Bitchat targets individual users, aid organizations operating in disaster zones, and communities where communication infrastructure has collapsed. With Bluetooth mesh network technology, the app can create an effective communication network throughout the city.

Dorsey's Bitchat project is considered a significant step in the field of decentralized communication, offering a new perspective on the future of digital communication.
