Chatgpt Creator Launches World Digital Id Tool in the us

Sam Altman, the creator of ChatGPT, has launched his controversial digital identification tool, World, in the US. This web3 project aims to distinguish real people from AI imitations online.

The system uses a device called Orb Mini to scan irises, creating a unique digital signature stored on the blockchain. This helps prevent the spread of deepfakes and ensures online interactions are authentic.

World was initially launched outside the US in 2023 due to regulatory concerns. The technology aims to ensure humans remain central in an AI-driven internet landscape.

The Orb Mini creates a digital signature, differentiating humans from machines. World claims to have nearly 26 million registered individuals and 12 million verified users.

Users who register and get scanned also receive Worldcoin (WLD) cryptocurrency. World has partnered with Match, including Tinder, to verify users on online dating services.

However, World faces scrutiny over privacy and data security. It has faced bans and investigations in several countries, including Spain, Portugal, France, Hong Kong, and South Korea.
