WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that allows users to translate foreign language messages directly within the app. The feature is currently available to select Android beta users. This eliminates the need for users to leave WhatsApp to understand messages in different languages. The translation feature supports popular languages such as Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Hindi, and Russian. The translation process occurs on-device, without requiring an active internet connection. Users can download language packs for specific languages or use an option to automatically detect and translate messages. Users can access the translation settings within the chat info screen, where they can choose languages for automatic translation. Manual translation is also available through the message options. WhatsApp allows users to provide feedback to improve translation quality without sharing original messages or translations with Meta.
