Apple is developing technology to control devices with thoughts, partnering with Synchron, a brain-computer interface (BCI) company.
Synchron's implantable device, with electrodes, reads brain signals and translates them into actions on iPhones, iPads, and Apple Vision Pro, eliminating the need for physical movement or voice commands.
The Stentrode, Synchron's brain implant, allows users to navigate screens and select icons by translating brain waves. Early testers, like Mark Jackson with ALS, have used it to experience virtual environments.
Synchron claims to be the first BCI company to achieve native integration with a new BCI Human Interface Device (BCI HID) profile. Elon Musk's Neuralink is also developing similar neurotechnology.
Apple is also advancing accessibility with Personal Voice and revamping motion-related tools, including faster eye and head tracking.
