Microsoft has announced the launch of file sharing capabilities between iPhones and Windows 10/11 PCs. Previously, this feature was limited to Android devices.
To utilize this functionality, users must download the 'Link to Windows' app on their iPhone and have the 'Phone Link' app installed on their Windows PC. The feature is currently available in the Windows Insider channel and will soon be accessible to all users.
Requirements include an iPhone running iOS 16 or newer, 'Phone Link' version 1.24112.73 or newer, and 'Link to Windows' version 1.24112.89.0 or newer.
Users can initiate file sharing by right-clicking on a file on their Windows PC and selecting 'Share' followed by 'Link to Phone'. On the iPhone, users can share files similarly using the share icon and selecting 'Link to Windows'.
The Phone Link app has been available on iOS for over a year, allowing users to make calls, send iMessages, and access notifications directly from Windows. Previously, it was exclusive to Android users.
For those not in the Insider channel, alternatives like LocalSend offer cross-platform file transfer capabilities between iPhones and Windows PCs.
