BYD Adjusts Production, Eyes Global EV Leadership in 2025

Edited by: Tetiana Pinchuk Pinchuk

Chinese EV manufacturer BYD has adjusted production in response to market dynamics, reducing shifts and postponing new production lines in China.

Despite these adjustments, BYD aims to sell 5.5 million vehicles in 2025, including over 800,000 overseas, a 29% increase from 2024.

In Q1 2025, BYD delivered nearly 1 million passenger vehicles, a 59% year-on-year increase, and exported a record 206,084 vehicles.

BYD expanded production capacity in 2024, adding nearly 200,000 units monthly and hiring approximately 200,000 employees.

The company plans a significant factory in Camacari, Brazil. BYD launched the Xia model in January 2025, and the Sealion 05 EV in March 2025.

Analysts predict BYD will surpass Tesla as the global BEV leader in 2025, with a 15.7% market share.

BYD faces challenges, including the end of a distribution partnership in Mexico and concerns in Brazil over job losses.
