Federal regulators are scrutinizing Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system. The inquiry focuses on its performance under limited visibility conditions. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) seeks additional information about the FSD system. They aim to understand how Tesla plans to evaluate vehicle capabilities and automated driving technologies for road use. Tesla has delayed launching its robotaxi service in Austin, Texas. This delay coincides with increased federal regulatory scrutiny. Tesla faces a probe into a prior claim of 23,000 autonomous drives. The agency is also requesting details on the size and models of vehicles to be used in the robotaxi service. They want to know how Tesla intends to ensure the safety of its robotaxi system. NHTSA also seeks details on how the automated driving system is distinguished from its FSD Supervised product. Regulators have asked Tesla to describe how it intends to ensure safe robot operations. This includes conditions of degraded visibility such as darkness, fog, dust, rain, or snow.
