EU Commission Proposes Sweeping Road Safety and Vehicle Rule Overhaul for 2025

Edited by: gaya one

The European Commission has proposed a comprehensive overhaul of EU road safety and vehicle registration rules on April 24, 2025. The proposal addresses the increasing number of electric vehicles and electronic safety systems, mandating regular testing.

The reforms aim to combat fraud related to pollutant emissions and odometer tampering. They also seek to create a digital vehicle registration system shared among Member States.

The Commission states the proposal will lead to a significant reduction in harmful air pollutant emissions and aims for near-zero fatalities and serious injuries on roads by 2050.

The proposal will be submitted to the European Parliament and the Council. It potentially creates opportunities for vehicle repair businesses and increased scrutiny for carmakers.
