Subaru introduces external airbag for cyclist protection

Edited by: Tetiana Pinchuk Pinchuk

Subaru has unveiled a new external airbag technology designed to protect cyclists in collisions. This innovative system is the first of its kind, specifically engineered to mitigate head trauma, a leading cause of fatalities in cyclist accidents. The airbag deploys along the bodywork, addressing areas often responsible for severe injuries during impacts. Currently, this feature is exclusively available in Japan on the new Subaru Forester. The system uses AI, advanced sensors, and mechanical engineering to distinguish cyclists, assess impact speed and direction, and deploy the airbag accordingly. This technology could redefine safety standards and inspire other manufacturers to develop similar protective measures.
