Glid Technologies, a Utah-based startup, is launching a pilot project in California using autonomous vehicles that can travel on both roads and rails.
The project, in partnership with Mendocino Railway, will take place on the historic Skunk Train route. Glid's autonomous road-rail vehicle, called the Glider, can carry fully loaded semi-trailers and switch between road and rail travel.
The company offers both fully electric and biodiesel hybrid models, aiming to decarbonize supply chains. On rails, the vehicles switch to remote human control from a central command center.
