Meta to Use EU User Data for AI Training

Meta plans to utilize public posts and comments from EU users on platforms such as Instagram to train its AI models. Users have the option to opt-out and prevent their data from being used for this purpose.

According to Meta, data from WhatsApp and private messages will not be used for AI training. The launch of Meta AI in the EU has faced delays due to regulations such as GDPR.

Meta is basing its approach on a decision from the European Data Protection Committee, which considers 'legitimate interest' a sufficient legal basis for AI development within the EU.
