At the GTC 2025 conference in San Jose, California, Nvidia introduced GR00T N1, the world's first fully customizable open-source base model for general-purpose humanoid robot reasoning and skills. According to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, this marks the arrival of an era where robots can perform everyday tasks.
GR00T N1 features a dual-system architecture inspired by human cognition, enabling robots to handle tasks from simple object manipulation to complex, multi-step procedures.
Developers can fine-tune GR00T N1 with real or synthetic data to adapt it to specific humanoid robots and tasks.
Nvidia is also partnering with Google DeepMind and Disney Research to develop Newton, an open-source physics engine for robotics development. Furthermore, Nvidia has developed the Blueprint Isaac GR00T to generate synthetic manipulation movements, making the data openly accessible via Hugging Face.
