Estonia Integrates AI Chatbots into National Education System

Edited by: Veronika Nazarova

Estonia is pioneering the integration of AI chatbots and other artificial intelligence solutions into its national education system. Starting September 1, the new academic year will grant 20,000 secondary and upper secondary students, along with 3,000 teachers, free access to "ChatGPT Edu" from OpenAI and other AI tools. The program aims to reach 38,000 students and 2,000 teachers in the following year. Kristina Kallas, the Minister of Education, emphasized Estonia's investment in teacher training through programs like "AI Leap," funded by a public-private partnership involving the Digital Council and the Ministry of Education and Research, to prepare young individuals for the rise of artificial intelligence.
