Us Students Break Rubik's Cube Solving Record With Robot

Edited by: Anna 🌎 Krasko

A team of four students from the United States has achieved a new Guinness World Record for the fastest Rubik's Cube-solving robot. Matthew Patrohay, Junpei Ota, Aden Hurd, and Alex Berta, students from West Lafayette, Indiana, developed the high-speed robotic system. The record was officially registered on April 21.

The students' robot, named Purdubik Cube, solved the Rubik's Cube in a mere 0.103 seconds. This time surpasses the previous record by two-tenths of a second. The previous record was 0.305 seconds, set by Mitsubishi Electric engineers in Japan in May 2024.

The project was initially presented at the Purdue ECE student design competition, SPARK, in December 2024, where it secured first place. The team continued to refine the robot, pushing the boundaries of automation and high-speed computing. The project received co-sponsorship from Purdue's Institute of Control, Optimization and Networks (ICON).
