Texas Cat Oscar Sets World Record for Longest Jump

Edited by: Anna 🎨 Krasko

Oscar, a seven-year-old cat from Texas, has achieved a Guinness World Record for the longest jump by a cat. The feline leaped an impressive distance of 8 feet and 5 inches, securing the title. Oscar belongs to Theodore Shiells of Dallas.

Shiells initially trained Oscar with basic tricks before discovering the cat's aptitude for jumping. Over approximately two years, Oscar progressed from small jumps to leaping through hoops. This led Shiells to consider a world record attempt.

The training process involved over 1,000 practice jumps. Initially, the existing record of 2.3 meters (about 7.5 feet) seemed unattainable. However, encouraged by Oscar's enthusiasm for jumping, they decided to pursue the record.

Oscar isn't the only talented pet in the Shiells household. His adopted sister, August Ray, is a surfing cat. She frequently participates in surfing competitions against dogs.
