Mexico Aims for Boxing Record: National Boxing Class Set for April 6th with a Million Participants

Mexico is gearing up for a nationwide boxing event, "National Boxing Class," scheduled for April 6th. Spearheaded by President Claudia Sheinbaum, the initiative aims to unite all 32 federal entities through simultaneous boxing classes held in public squares. The main event will take place at the Zócalo in Mexico City, with Sheinbaum leading alongside prominent figures in national and international boxing. The event seeks to promote sports, health, and community engagement, particularly among youth, as an alternative to addiction and criminal activity. The initiative has garnered support from international organizations like the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Julio César Chávez, a former world champion, lauded the effort, emphasizing the role of sports in combating addiction. The World Boxing Council (WBC) also expressed its support, anticipating over a million participants nationwide. The event will feature certified trainers and include amateur and professional athletes. Beyond boxing, the day will incorporate activities focused on preventive health, nutrition, and emotional well-being, aiming to break down stigmas associated with boxing and promote values like discipline and respect.
