World Boxing, established in April 2023, has achieved provisional recognition from the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This recognition signifies the IOC's acknowledgment of World Boxing as the international federation governing the sport within the Olympic Movement. This development significantly enhances the prospects for boxing's inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, especially after the IOC removed recognition of the International Boxing Association (IBA) in 2023 due to governance and ethical concerns. The IOC's assessment highlighted World Boxing's consistent progress in addressing key areas, leading to the recommendation for provisional recognition. World Boxing now boasts 78 members across five continents and has implemented robust governance structures and integrity processes, aligning with the World Anti-Doping Code. Gennadiy Golovkin, former world champion, heads World Boxing's Olympic Commission. Boris van der Vorst, President of World Boxing, emphasized the importance of this milestone, stating that it brings the organization closer to restoring boxing to the Olympic program. The IOC had previously urged national boxing federations to establish a new global body to ensure boxing's Olympic future.
