Dawn Staley Signs Record-Breaking Contract with South Carolina Women’s Basketball Team

Dawn Staley, the head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball team, has made history by signing a record-setting contract extension that will keep her at the university through the 2029-30 season. This new deal, which is effective immediately, positions Staley as the highest-paid coach in the history of women's basketball.

The contract stipulates a starting salary of $4 million for the current year, with an annual increase of $250,000, culminating in a base salary of $5.25 million in the final year. The total value of the contract, including performance bonuses, could reach an impressive $25.25 million.

Staley's impact on the Gamecocks has been profound since she took over the program in 2008, leading the team to three National Championships and achieving an overall record of 457-107. Under her guidance, the Gamecocks have also secured eight Southeastern Conference (SEC) championships, and Staley has been recognized with five National Coach of the Year awards.

In her statement regarding the contract, Staley expressed pride in representing the University of South Carolina and emphasized the collaborative effort that has contributed to the team's success. She acknowledged the support from players, staff, and the wider community, indicating that this investment in women's basketball is one that will yield significant returns.
