A recent global survey indicates the continued dominance of South Korean pop culture, particularly K-pop, in shaping international perceptions. The survey, conducted from November 29 to December 27, 2024, involved 26,400 participants across 28 countries and highlighted key preferences and trends. K-pop remains the most recognized aspect of South Korean culture, with 17.8% of respondents associating it with the nation. BTS maintained its position as the leading cultural icon for the seventh consecutive year, favored by 24.6% of K-pop enthusiasts. BLACKPINK ranked second with 12.3%. Beyond music, Korean cuisine (hansik) was recognized by 11.8% of respondents, followed by K-dramas at 8.7%, beauty products at 6.4%, and Korean films at 5.6%. The film "Parasite" remains the top cinematic work, recognized by 8.3% of respondents. Actor Lee Min-ho continues to be the most favored Korean personality for the twelfth consecutive year, securing 7% of the votes. Approximately 60% of respondents believe that experiencing Korean content positively influences their perception of the country. The survey also noted a rise in negative perceptions of Hallyu, with 37.5% expressing unfavorable views, citing concerns such as excessive commercialization and North Korea.
