Queen has been selected as a recipient of the Polar Music Prize for 2025. The award recognizes the band's significant impact on music, citing their "distinctive and instantly recognisable sound." The band, known for hits such as 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'We Are The Champions,' has sold over 300 million records worldwide.
Surviving members Sir Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon expressed their gratitude for the honor. The award also recognizes the legacy of Freddie Mercury, the band's late frontman, and acknowledges Adam Lambert, who has performed lead vocals with Queen since 2011.
Jazz pioneer Herbie Hancock and soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan will also receive the prize. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 27 at the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm, Sweden. Previous recipients include Sir Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, and Sting.
