Pope Francis has donated one of his Popemobiles to Caritas, an international Catholic relief organization. The vehicle is being converted into a mobile health clinic to serve the children of Gaza.
Caritas announced the donation on May 3, 2025, stating that the Popemobile will be equipped with diagnostic, examination, and treatment equipment. This includes rapid tests, suture kits, oxygen supply, vaccines, and a refrigerator for medicines.
The Vatican News also confirmed the donation, publishing photos of the conversion process. However, the timeline for the vehicle to enter Gaza remains uncertain due to the ongoing humanitarian aid restrictions.
Israel cut off all humanitarian aid to Gaza on March 2, 2025. Caritas stated that the Popemobile will be ready to provide primary healthcare when the humanitarian corridor reopens.
