Elon Musk announced his departure from his role in the White House DOGE office, thanking President Donald Trump for the opportunity.

Musk's focus was on cutting government spending and reshaping the federal government. The announcement follows Musk's criticism of President Trump's spending bill.

Musk stated he is returning to focusing on his companies and reducing political spending. He thanked President Trump on X for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending.

A White House official confirmed Musk's offboarding process has begun. Musk had been designated a "special government employee," limiting his service to 130 days per year.

He was closely involved in the White House DOGE office's efforts to cut spending and eliminate fraud. Musk also stated he spent too much time on politics this year.

He plans to cut back his political spending, having spent at least $277 million supporting Trump and the GOP in the 2024 election. Musk said he is now back to "spending 24/7 at work."

Tesla's share price has risen since Musk's announcement in April. The company had faced boycotts over his work with the White House DOGE office.
