In an interview with Esquire magazine, published on August 10, 2026, Brad Pitt openly discussed his decision to end seven years of sobriety.
"I was sober for seven years," the actor stated, "Then I fell off the wagon again." He clarified that this relapse was "in a more measured way."
Pitt confessed, "A couple of times I overestimated my capabilities and realized: no, this isn't for me. Not in large quantities."
Nowadays, Pitt allows himself a few glasses of wine, but he emphasizes, "I can't drink much. I need to remain professional."
The interviewer noted that the topic of his drinking arose when Pitt offered him a glass of wine. The actor explained that after a long period of abstinence, he had returned to alcohol, but only in limited amounts.
During the same conversation, Pitt also recounted a more challenging period in his life. He confessed, "I've never been suicidal, except for one brief period. And during that brief period, I just thought – I just didn't see a way out."
He described the pain as "overwhelming" and attributed it to ongoing family issues.
One significant challenge was the death of his mother in August 2025. Pitt observed that such events had pushed him to a particularly low point.
Now 62, Pitt remains actively involved in his career: his film "Heart of the Beast" is scheduled for release in September 2026, and he is also producing a new project.
