Tina Knowles, mother of Beyoncé and Solange, is releasing her memoir, "Matriarch," which debuts today and has been named this month's selection for Oprah Winfrey's book club. The book details her life from humble beginnings to becoming a successful businesswoman and mother figure.

In the memoir, Knowles reveals she was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer last year. She shares intimate details about her life, including celebrations, accomplishments, disappointments, and trauma. These include her divorce, the deaths of her parents, a best friend, and her Uncle Jonny.

Knowles began writing the book 12 or 13 years ago after her divorce. She wanted to share her story in her own words for her grandchildren. The audiobook features dedications from her daughters, Beyoncé and Solange.

The book explores her family history, tracing back to her great-grandmothers who were enslaved. She also discovered a family connection to the name Solange. One of her great-grandmother's middle names was Solange and her mother's name was Solange, spelled Soulange.

Knowles hopes her book will inspire others to explore their family history. She emphasizes the importance of knowing one's roots. She is appearing in conversation with Kelly Rowland at the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land on May 5 with special guest Grammy-winning singer Yolanda Adams.
