Walmart Partners with Indian Startups for Food Innovation on January 23, 2025

Walmart has announced strategic pilot programs with three Indian startups to enhance its U.S. supply chain and sourcing operations.

The selected startups are:

  • KBCols Sciences: This Pune-based company produces non-GMO natural dyes from agricultural waste, promoting sustainability in textile manufacturing. The pilot will test these dyes on various fabrics.

  • GreenPod Labs: Based in Chennai, this startup creates sachets filled with plant extracts that slow down the ripening of fruits and vegetables, thereby extending their freshness during transport. Walmart will evaluate the effectiveness of these sachets in collaboration with UC Davis.

  • Cropin: This Bengaluru-based AgTech company offers an AI-driven platform for insights into crop yields, which can enhance productivity and reduce waste. The pilot aims to improve sourcing of perishable goods through better data accuracy.

Walmart's collaboration with these innovators is part of its commitment to building a more resilient supply chain through technology. The pilot programs are expected to drive sustainability and efficiency across the food industry.
