A24 has acquired the global distribution rights to 'The Peasant,' a revenge action-thriller starring Dev Patel, for approximately $30 million. The deal was finalized just before the Cannes Film Market in May 2025.

Patel co-wrote the script with Will Dunn and will also direct the film, marking his second directorial effort after 2024's 'Monkey Man'. 'The Peasant' is set in 14th-century feudal India and is described as a blend of 'Braveheart' and 'John Wick,' incorporating Arthurian elements. The story centers on a shepherd who seeks vengeance against mercenary knights who raided his community.

The film's script was featured on the 2023 Black List before Patel's involvement led to a shift in creative direction, changing the setting from Italy to India. Thunder Road Pictures and Fifth Season are co-producing the film. There is no confirmed release date yet.
