Denzel Washington Eyes Retirement from Film After 'King Lear,' Emphasizes Stage Roots

Denzel Washington, a veteran of both stage and screen, has hinted at a possible retirement from film acting after completing his role in 'King Lear.' Currently starring in 'Othello' on Broadway, Washington emphasized his identity as a stage actor who also does film, clarifying that his foundation lies in theater.



Washington is set to appear in Antoine Fuqua's Hannibal epic for Netflix and Spike Lee's 'Highest 2 Lowest.' He also mentioned potential collaborations with Steve McQueen and Ryan Coogler, including a role in the next 'Black Panther' film.



Washington, who first played Othello at 22, is revisiting the role at 70, with talks of a film adaptation directed by Kenny Leon. He stresses his focus on working with top filmmakers at this stage of his career, aiming to explore uncharted territories before stepping away from the screen.
