The Portuguese fiction series 'Espias', created by Pandora da Cunha Telles, has been selected for the Berlinale Series Market, taking place in February 2025. The announcement was made by the festival organizers on Friday.

'Espias', a collaboration between Ukbar Filmes from Portugal and a Polish production team, is among 17 international television projects chosen for preview at the event, scheduled for February 16-19, alongside the Berlin Film Festival.

The jury selected these productions based on their potential market appeal, aiming to provide them with increased visibility and opportunities to connect with international buyers and distributors.

Directed by João Maia and Laura Seixas, 'Espias' continues the narrative from the 2020 series 'A Espia', also by Telles. Set during World War II, the series explores globalized espionage networks, featuring seven spies instead of just two.

Inspired by real events from 1942 to 1945 and notable spies such as Popov, Garbo, and Brutus, the series promises to alter the course of the war. It consists of seven episodes filmed in Figueira da Foz and Lisbon, with financial support from various Portuguese institutions.

The cast includes Madalena Almeida, Maria João Bastos, and Daniela Ruah, among others. Three Brazilian series have also been selected for the Berlinale Series Market.
