Senators Investigate FBI's Handling of Hunter Biden Laptop Information Before 2020 Election

Senators are demanding transparency from the FBI regarding its handling of the Hunter Biden laptop investigation before the 2020 election, following a report by Catherine Herridge and Michael Shellenberger. The report alleges the FBI imposed a 'gag order' that suppressed multiple lines of inquiry related to the laptop. Senators have requested all relevant communications, including chat, text, and instant messages, as well as all FBI records from December 1, 2019, to the present, pertaining to Hunter Biden and his electronic devices. This demand arises from concerns that previous investigations have not held those involved accountable. The senators aim to uncover how the FBI managed the laptop since it came into their possession on December 9, 2019, and provide the American public with a detailed account. Newly released internal FBI chat messages reveal that senior bureau officials actively shut down discussion of the laptop's credibility days before the 2020 Presidential election. On October 14, 2020, the day the New York Post first reported on Hunter Biden's laptop, the FBI told employees “do not discuss [the] Biden matter” and imposed a “gag order” on an analyst who tried to confirm the story's veracity to Twitter during a meeting, according to chat logs released by the House Judiciary Committee.
