Dwight Cleveland's Vintage Movie Poster Collection Heads to Auction at Heritage Auctions, Dallas

Dwight Cleveland, an American real estate agent and avid collector, is auctioning off a selection of his vintage movie poster collection at Heritage Auctions in Dallas on March 27-28. The collection, amassed over nearly 50 years, includes rare posters from iconic films like "King Kong," "Casablanca," and "2001: A Space Odyssey." The auction features approximately 500 posters and lobby cards, with some lots estimated to fetch tens of thousands of dollars. Cleveland, who has handled around 150,000 pieces over the years, emphasizes that each poster was carefully chosen for its artistic merit. A Czech poster for "King Kong" (1933) is valued between $40,000 and $80,000, while an Italian poster for "Casablanca" (1953) is another highlight. Cleveland's passion began in high school when he became captivated by a lobby card for "The Wolf Song" (1929). His collection was previously exhibited at the Norton Museum of Art and in San Diego, Los Angeles, and New York. Heritage Auctions estimates the total sale could reach $1 million. After the auction, Cleveland will retain over 10,000 lobby cards and 500 posters.
