The 19th International Architecture Exhibition, titled 'Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.,' and curated by Carlo Ratti, is set to open to the public from May 10 to November 23, 2025, in Venice. This year's Biennale will take place across the Giardini, Arsenale, and Forte Marghera. The pre-opening days are scheduled for May 8 and 9, with the award ceremony and official inauguration on May 10.
Carlo Ratti's curatorial theme emphasizes a crucial shift from merely mitigating climate change to actively adapting to a world profoundly altered by it. The exhibition aims to explore how architecture can harness various forms of intelligence—natural, artificial, and collective—to reimagine and reshape the built environment in response to pressing environmental challenges. Over 750 participants, forming interdisciplinary and multi-generational teams, are expected to contribute, making it potentially the largest Biennale in history.
The Italian Pavilion, curated by Guendalina Salimei, will present 'TERRÆ AQUÆ. L'Italia e l'intelligenza del mare' at the Tese delle Vergini in Arsenale. This project explores the relationship between land and sea, focusing on the Italian coastline as a dynamic space shaped by environmental, cultural, and historical forces. The exhibition addresses themes such as sustainable management of coastal areas, reinterpreting waterfronts, and reconverting industrial archeology along the coasts.
