In June 2025, the European Union saw a significant rise in solar energy production, accounting for 22.1% of the region's energy mix. This surpassed both nuclear energy and fossil fuels, marking a notable shift in the energy landscape.
This growth was fueled by favorable weather conditions and increased installed capacity across several member states. At least 13 EU countries achieved monthly records in solar production, including the Netherlands (40.5%) and Greece (35.1%).
This trend reflects Europe's ongoing commitment to energy transition and reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources. Wind energy also hit new highs in May and June 2025, contributing to the diversification of renewable energy sources in the region.
