NASA and South Korea's KASA Collaborate on Solar Wind Study Aboard ISS with CODEX

NASA and the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) are collaborating on a mission to study the sun's corona and solar wind using the Coronal Diagnostic Experiment (CODEX) [13, 14]. CODEX, a solar coronagraph, has been installed on the International Space Station (ISS) [16].

CODEX is the first instrument to simultaneously measure the density, temperature, and velocity of the solar wind [5, 12]. This will provide valuable insights into how the solar wind is heated to millions of degrees and accelerated to high speeds [4, 12]. The instrument observes the corona for up to 55 minutes per 90-minute Earth orbit [7].

KASA and NASA have also signed a joint statement to cooperate on space and aerospace research, including lunar and Mars exploration [8, 16]. This collaboration signifies a strengthened alliance between the United States and South Korea in space exploration [8, 10].
