Double Solar Eruption Impacting Earth

Two coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are traveling towards Earth following a double solar eruption. These CMEs, which originated from the Sun around April 12 and 13, are predicted to arrive on April 16, 2025.

The NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a geomagnetic storm watch. There is a possibility of auroras being visible, potentially extending into the northern parts of the U.S., such as New York and Idaho.

Geomagnetic Storm Watch

A G2-class (moderate) geomagnetic storm could occur on Wednesday if the CMEs arrive in close succession. The effects are anticipated to extend through April 17. According to spaceweatherlive.com, M-class flares are expected.

The Sun goes through an 11-year cycle, causing changes on its surface, resulting in sunspots and solar activity.

These outbursts can disrupt radio signals and power grids. They also cause auroras when particles interact with Earth’s atmosphere. As the Sun progresses through its cycle, more geomagnetic storms are anticipated.
