Edited by: Tasha S Samsonova

Veteran NASA astronaut Don Pettit, currently aboard the International Space Station (ISS), recently observed and photographed impressive aurora australis displays as the space station passed over Australia and Antarctica. Pettit, who has been photographing auroras from space since 2012, captured the event in video, showing the Earth's curve with the aurora glowing beneath. The aurora initially appeared green, intensifying into vibrant shades of pink and violet. According to NASA, the Sun is currently experiencing a period of heightened activity, leading to numerous aurora displays observed from the ISS.
