These compounds, essential for numerous medicines, are now produced using visible light, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional, often harsh, chemical processes.
This innovative approach, developed in India, utilizes blue visible light, akin to standard LED light, to facilitate the synthesis of heterocycles. These compounds are crucial in drugs treating allergies, cancer, depression, and other ailments. The new method operates at room temperature and employs less hazardous materials, marking a significant step towards greener chemistry.
The IIT Indore team focused on pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidin-4-ones, compounds known for their effectiveness in binding to targets within the human body.
