Shockwave therapy for chronic pain

Edited by: Elena HealthEnergy

Shockwave therapy (SWT) is a non-invasive technique that uses high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate tissue regeneration and relieve chronic pain in the musculoskeletal system, including the foot and ankle.

SWT works by promoting the release of growth factors, activating cells responsible for tissue repair, and, in some cases, stimulating the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis).

SWT is indicated for the treatment of various musculoskeletal conditions, such as tendinopathies, plantar fasciitis, and stress fractures. It has shown effectiveness in promoting neovascularization, facilitating tissue regeneration, and alleviating pain.

The treatment usually consists of 3 to 5 sessions, with intervals of 1 to 2 weeks. SWT offers several benefits, including pain relief, improved tissue repair, and bone proliferation.

Studies show that SWT can reduce inflammation, stimulate the formation of new blood vessels, and increase collagen production, which are essential for the regeneration of affected tissues.

Shockwave therapy is an effective and non-invasive alternative for treating chronic pain in the foot and ankle, especially when conventional treatments have failed. The indication and application of SWT should be performed by qualified professionals to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.
