A significant archaeological discovery has been made in Abadeh, Fars province, Iran, in April 2025. A Sasanian-era grave stone inscription, written in Pahlavi script, has been identified, offering new insights into the region's history. The inscription dates back to the late Sasanian period.
Researcher Abolhassan Atabaki, in collaboration with tour guides Babak Parsa-Jam and Arash Namiranian, deciphered the inscription. The inscription was found hidden in a small cave and contains an order for making a grave, suggesting a rock grave or stone mass burial. This discovery potentially predates other Pahlavi inscriptions in the area, adding to the historical significance of Abadeh.
The documentation of the inscription has been submitted to the Fars Cultural Heritage Department for registration on the National Heritage List. This finding could reshape the understanding of Abadeh's history. Abadeh, located at the northern entrance to Fars province, has settlements dating back to the first millennium BC, making this inscription a crucial piece of its historical puzzle.
