The Louvre in Paris is hosting its first fashion exhibition in 231 years, titled "Louvre Couture," showcasing approximately 100 significant outfits and accessories from 45 houses, dating from the 1960s to 2025. The exhibition, running until July, places masterworks by designers like Balenciaga, Chanel, Dior, and Yves St Laurent within the context of French decorative arts and history. Curated by Olivier Gabet, the exhibition illustrates the close link between fashion and art, displaying couture alongside tapestries, armor, porcelain, and furniture. A metal bustier from Schiaparelli's 2023 collection is displayed with reliquaries from the Middle Ages, while a Balenciaga metal dress is placed next to a 16th-century steel suit of armor. The Louvre also hosted a gala dinner, raising €1 million for its renovation project. Additionally, the Galerie Dior is hosting an exhibition of Peter Lindberg's fashion photography until May 4th. The Grand Palais will open an exhibition on Charles Worth in May.
