Vietnam Floods: Record Rainfall Causes Devastation

Edited by: Anna 🌎 Krasko

In June 2025, Northern Vietnam experienced unprecedented heavy rainfall, leading to severe flooding and significant damage. From June 4th to 10th, the region recorded 12 days of heavy rain, with total rainfall ranging from 200-600 mm, exceeding the multi-year average by 40-80%.

Quang Ninh province saw rainfall reaching 333 mm on June 9th, breaking the national record set in 2001. Hoa Binh province also recorded 195 mm on June 24th, surpassing a 50-year record. The heavy rains caused widespread flooding and landslides across several provinces, including Ha Giang, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, and Nam Dinh.

The Prime Minister has directed relevant ministries and local authorities to implement urgent measures to respond to the heavy rain, floods, and landslides, aiming to minimize casualties and property damage. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that Northern Vietnam will continue to experience heavy rainfall from June to August 2025, with a high risk of floods and landslides, particularly in mountainous and low-lying areas.
