Madre Fire in California Expands Rapidly, Prompts Evacuations

A significant wildfire, named the Madre Fire, ignited on July 2, 2025, near New Cuyama, California. The blaze, located along Highway 166 in San Luis Obispo County, has exhibited rapid expansion.

By July 3, the fire had consumed over 35,000 acres, with containment remaining at 0%. High winds, challenging terrain, and dry vegetation have fueled the fire's aggressive behavior.

Evacuation orders are in effect for several zones, including SLC-337, SLC-226, and SLC-338. Evacuation warnings have been issued for additional areas. Firefighting resources are actively deployed, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
