Torrential rainfall and landslides have caused significant disruption in Himachal Pradesh, India, since June 2025. Over 600 roads have been blocked, and 1743 transformers have been affected. The weather department has issued alerts for several districts for the coming days.
The Chandigarh-Shimla National Highway has experienced severe landslides, leading to road closures. This incident occurred at 6:30 AM, causing traffic jams for hours. Authorities are rerouting traffic. The situation is compounded by ongoing rainfall.
According to the State Disaster Response Centre (SDRC), over 600 roads in the state have been blocked due to the heavy rainfall. Mandi district has been particularly affected, with 500 transformers down. The heavy downpour has also impacted the Kalka-Shimla heritage railway line. Trees and debris falling on the tracks have halted train services. Train services resumed at 9 AM.
Furthermore, the Beas and other rivers in Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, and Bilaspur are overflowing, creating a flood-like situation. In this monsoon season, 20 people have died, and the damage exceeds 75 crore rupees. The state government and administration have appealed to people to take the monsoon warnings seriously and stay in safe locations.
