Incessant rainfall has led to severe flooding in several districts of Bihar, India, including Nalanda, Ekangarsarai, and Karaiparsurai. The situation is attributed to a sudden rise in water levels in the Falgu River, causing damage to small embankments.
According to the Disaster Management Department (DMD) of the Bihar government, the rise in water levels in the Falgu River on June 19, 2025, has caused authorities to discharge 73,000 cusecs of water from the Bairaj (Jehanabad). This discharge has further exacerbated the situation, leading to flooding in several areas of Nalanda, Ekangarsarai, and Karaiparsurai districts.
Authorities are providing food packets and safe materials to the affected people. The NDRF has deployed two teams in the affected areas for rescue and relief operations.
Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, the Minister of the State's Water Resources Department, said, "Adequate arrangements are being made for the affected people due to the floods in Nalanda and Jehanabad districts." The Minister added that reports of damage to some embankments in Nalanda, Jehanabad, and Patna districts have been received. Repair work of the damaged embankments is underway.
