A 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck Iran's Semnan province on June 2, 2025. The epicenter was near Zaman Abad, approximately 150 kilometers northeast of Tehran, at a depth of 8 kilometers. No damage or casualties were reported according to the Iranian seismological authorities.
This seismic event occurred amidst the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, which began on June 13, 2025. Israel initiated the conflict with strikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, military bases, and infrastructure. Iran responded with missile attacks, including one on the US consulate in Tel Aviv.
The earthquake in Semnan, however, remained an isolated event. It occurred independently of the military actions and the government-imposed internet blackout, which severely restricted communication within Iran and with the outside world.
