Edited by: Anna 🎨 Krasko

Severe flash floods struck parts of Virginia, western Maryland, and Pennsylvania on Tuesday, following heavy rainfall. A 12-year-old boy is missing in Virginia after being swept away by floodwaters.

Elementary schools in rural Maryland were evacuated as a result of the rising waters. Residents in low-lying areas of Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, were also ordered to evacuate.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore urged residents to remain vigilant and heed warnings from local officials. Parts of Allegany County, Maryland, saw at least 4.65 inches of rain in 24 hours.
