A moderate earthquake struck southeastern France early Tuesday morning, shaking residents in the Savoie and Isère departments. The quake, measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale, occurred at 3:40 AM local time and lasted for approximately 20 seconds.
The epicenter was located 19 kilometers south of Chambéry, near the commune of Sainte-Marie d'Alloix. The shallow depth of the earthquake, at only 5 kilometers, amplified its impact near the epicenter.
Hundreds of residents reported feeling the tremor, with many describing a loud, explosive sound. While some witnessed objects moving or falling, no injuries or significant damage were reported.
