Heavy Snowfall Disrupts Denver Metro Area, Causing Power Outages and Travel Delays

Edited by: Anna 🎨 Krasko

A significant snowstorm has impacted the Denver metro area, causing widespread power outages and travel disruptions. As of Friday morning, over 47,000 Xcel Energy customers were without power, with the largest outage reported in Thornton. The storm, which brought a band of snow overnight, has made roads slick and reduced visibility.

Denver International Airport (DIA) is experiencing major delays, with 658 flights delayed and 11 canceled. Southwest Airlines is particularly affected, with the most delays and cancellations among DIA service providers. Road closures have been reported on Interstate 70 in both directions due to jackknifed semi-trucks and hazardous conditions.

The snowfall is expected to continue intermittently through Friday, particularly in the foothills and mountains. Temperatures are forecast to drop again Friday evening, causing new snow to stick to the roads. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and check for updated road conditions before traveling.
