A well-marked low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal as of April 8, 2025, prompting weather alerts for several Indian states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that the system, which originated over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, is expected to move north-northwestwards over the next 24 hours, maintaining its intensity. Subsequently, the IMD forecasts that the low-pressure area will recurve north-northeastwards and gradually weaken over the central Bay of Bengal in the following 24 hours. This weather pattern is likely to bring increased rainfall to Odisha. Other regions, including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, are also expected to experience light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the Bay of Bengal during this period due to squally weather conditions.
