Aurora Borealis Visible Over Wales and Vernal Equinox

Edited by: Anna 🌎 Krasko

The aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, was observed over Scotland and Wales on Wednesday night 19 March 2025. This phenomenon is attributed to heightened solar activity, coinciding with the sun's peak in its 11-year cycle.

The UK has experienced several celestial events in recent months, with multiple aurora sightings already recorded in 2025. The lights are most active during the Equinox and Solstice periods in March/April and September/October.

The Vernal Equinox occurred at 09.01 am on Thursday, marking the start of astronomical spring.
